Essential oils can have some powerful benefits but they’re also very strong and a little definitely goes a long way! Because they’re so potent, getting clued up on how to blend safely using carrier oils is extremely important.
Carrier oils are very effective at making essential oils less potent, without affecting their therapeutic benefits. Some essential oils can be quite irritating if you don’t use a carrier oil, especially if you have sensitive skin. Others can even be dangerous to use “neat”, or straight (no carrier oil).
Popular carrier oils include jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil, olive oil and avocado oil. A lot of these carrier oils are hydrating and nourishing and can give your skin a boost too!
Although most carrier oils don’t have a strong smell, they can potentially alter the scent of your essential oils. Sweet almond oil has a slightly nutty scent, for example. That’s just something to bear in mind when you’re choosing which carrier oil to use.
When you’re buying carrier oils, look for ones that are 100% pure essential oil – no additives etc. If they are not pure, you will not get the therapeutic effects you are looking for.
Proper dilution rates vary depending on age, condition being treated, pregnancy and other client conditions/ medications.
Until next time! 😊
